Abingdon / Washington County
Proposed projects include: Barter Theater commissioned production relating to Jamestown and the heritage of Virginia; Depot Square Renovations; Southwest Virginia Artisans Center; Virginia Highlands Festival theme “Come Home to Abingdon”; Special cultural heritage exhibits at William King Regional Arts Center and the Arts depot; Special programming at the Historical Society of Washington County, VA.
Alexandria
Proposed projects include: Completion of restoration of 1864-69 Freedman’s Cemetery Memorial Park; Exhibit at the Lyceum focusing on community celebrations using 17th century documents and artifacts; “Early Views of Virginia Indians: The William W. Cole Collection” at the Lyceum; Historic publications, (coloring books, school and church guides, and community history); Special events: lecture series, Alexandria Symphony, Little Theater and preservation programs; Traveling exhibition “Uncovering Home”: examines discovery and recent excavations of original James Fort; Exhibit on the legacy of Jamestown, historic preservation in Alexandria and elsewhere, DAR involvement at the Lyceum.

Proposed projects include: Creation of Jackson River Scenic Trail; Covington Train Depot Restoration; Oakland Church Restoration; Unidentified photos project: a display of unidentified photos at the Charles P. Jones Library; Historical Mini history lecture series; WPA Article Series: placing articles in the Virginian Review that will focus on the area and were part of the WPA projects.

Proposed projects include: Open time capsule from 1957; create new time capsule to be opened in 2057; Develop local history/civics units for K-12 students on 100 years of Altavista history, growth, etc.; Create local history museum to document Altavista’s history with references to pre-1607 history; Open an information center to assist travelers/tourists with available amenities; Develop a map and walking tour of original town with markers for original homes and businesses; Place antique cabin replicating original home of Colonel Charles Lynch at Avoca Museum; Create A Journey through Time: Altavista and the Lane Company, an exhibit at Avoca Museum; Develop signage for self-guided walking tour and at Avoca Museum; Develop tourism and education program devoted to Miss Juliet Fauntleroy’s artifacts; Complete the Arboretum as part of the grounds of Avoca Museum.
Amherst County
Proposed projects include: Sorghum Festival – First weekend in October; Virginia Wine and Garlic Festival – Second weekend in October; Amherst County Apple Harvest Festival – Third weekend in October; Book Review: “The First Seventeen Years: ‘Virginia 1607-1624” by Charles Hatch Jr. July 29, 2006; Village Garden Club to plant an America's Anniversary Garden in the Traffic Circle in the center of Town.
Appomattox County / Town of Appomattox
Proposed projects include: Completion of Appomattox County Community Park and Clover Hill Living History Village; Lectures and exhibits at the Appomattox Courthouse National Park; Civil War Re-enactment; Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival in October; Special programs and lectures by Appomattox Historical Society; School/educational programs within SOL guidelines; Public events sponsored by the Appomattox Chamber of Commerce; Restoration of the Old Appomattox Court House; Completion of the Carver Price African American Heritage Museum; Planting Anniversary gardens at Appomattox Middle School and throughout town.

Proposed projects include: “Homespun”: a sculptural installation in front of the Ball-Sellers House, the oldest existing house in Arlington; projects and events related to the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route, which passed through Arlington County; installation of an interpretive panel near the Key Bridge to mark the location where the French Army crossed the Potomac River on its march to and from the victory at Yorktown in 1781; possible memorial service to be held either in Arlington Cemetery or at the dedication of the interpretive panel to honor the men who died in the crossing of the Potomac in the service of the French and American Armies in 1781; development and installation of historic markers that recognize special places and events in Arlington’s and Virginia’s history.
Augusta County
Proposed projects include: Production of an outdoor musical drama at one of the areas regional parks that highlights the country’s rich history which will be unveiled in the spring of 2007; offering a series of farm tours that focuses on Augusta’s diverse and rich agricultural heritage that stretches from the areas first settlement in 1738 to today when Augusta ranks second in the state in agricultural production; preserving the story of the areas schools and educational institutions through archival records preservation and the creation of an exhibit in a public building; creating a series of heritage gardens at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona; creating a historic, cultural, and agricultural driving tour map of Augusta County; create a commemoration Web site: www.augustajamestown2007.org; Commemorative throw blanket to be designed and sold as a fundraiser; three new traveling exhibits created; official community kick-off at the Sweet Dreams Festival on July 23; Project that will catalog and preserve Augusta County school records; Augusta brochure to be printed before July; Sponsorship with Daily News Leader in Staunton; Famous Augusta County cutouts made of: Grandma Moses, Ida Stover Eisenhower, William Sheppard, John Colters, Native American, and Jededian Hotchkiss. These are traveling around the area.
Bath County
Proposed projects include: Parade of History, May 12, 2007; “A Taste of Bath”, May 13, 2007; Bath County Historical Society Annual Spring Meeting, May 14, 2007; completion of The Nature Conservancy and renovations at the Old Dairy and historical building in Warm Springs; annual Christmas Day Parade; 41st Annual Bath County Art Show; renovate the old Millboro Elementary School (c. 1913); complete renovations on the Bath County Historical Society, including expanding the library collection, building a new research center, and expanding museum display space.
Bedford City / Bedford County
Possible projects include: Completion of Centertown Bedford streetscape improvements; Development of way finding signage system; Development of heritage publications and programs; Development of “Partners in Public Art”; Gardens at the Welcome Center and Wharton Gardens.
Berryville

Proposed projects include: Blacksburg history panel discussion; exhibition featuring models of Blackburg's historic homes; Blacksburg Museum and Smithfield Plantation historic lecture series in 2007; Photography exhibit featuring the eight historic buildings owned by the Town of Blacksburg; Holidays at Smithfield (2006 and 2007)-Visit the Smithfield home decorated in colonial style during the holidays; Smithfield Days (2007)-craft displays and demonstrations; Historic photograph event during Steppin' Out August 4-5, 2006-street festival with arts, crafts, music, and other attractions; Exhibitions and programs focusing on the “Sixteen Squares” that were the original square blocks of the town est. in 1798; Circa, Blacksburg Museum Quarterly Newsletter, features an article on their community programs and gives information on the towns new online video service; Lyric Theater Masquerade Ball (September 2006) and restoration of College Avenue; Development of an online version of the Blacksburg Museum’s Historic Walking Tour; Development of a Smithfield catalogue; New River Heritage Coalition Sports Exhibit; Development of a catalogue of furniture pieces at Smithfield using photographs and drawings; Holiday ornaments designed and sold featuring pictures of Blacksburg Historic Buildings.
Blackstone (National Alumnae Association and College Archives)
Proposed projects include: Blackstone College (1892-1950) Homecoming at Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center which will feature the awarding of $10,000 in college scholarships to descendants of the college, a special program called “the windows of Crenshaw Church,” and a “Jamestown” tree planting at VUMAC; Blackstone High School will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2007 with afternoon exhibits, a dance, and a dinner at Fort Pickett; The Academy at Blackstone history of the military academies from 1894-1941 will be released by College Archives of Blackstone; Author Louise Watson Fox will read from her recently published book on superstitions from the Old Dominion; Painting of the Blackstone Legacy by William E. Clark; Commissioning of a Special Jamestown 2007 medal: Come Home to Blackstone; Commissioning of a Special Jamestown 2007 postcard: Come Home to Blackstone and 4-card America 400 Blackstone Legacy; Come Home to Blackstone medallion presented to registered attendees of homecoming; Official Jamestown/ Blackstone caps presented to Adams Scholars, Class of 2006; America’s Anniversary Garden planted; Dedication of 12 “Jamestown Oaks” on former college campus; “The Windows of Crenshaw” talk and tour by Mary Virginia Irby; Billy Coleburn as keynote speaker; Possible restoration of noted oil paintings of two Blackstone College dignitaries.
Bland County
Proposed projects include: Festival of Leaves theme: Come Home to Bland; Board of Supervisors and County Public Library will sponsor a school essay contest related to Jamestown; creation of a time capsule to be buried at the County Courthouse and be opened in 2057; school/educational programs within SOL guidelines; creation of community quilt to be on display at the County Courthouse; library programs and media displays correlating to Jamestown and our Nation’s birthplace; special events tied in and shared with the Wytheville, Wythe, Bland Chamber of Commerce; completion of the Exit 52 Waterline Extension Project; groundbreaking for the Bland Waste Water Treatment Facility; open a satellite museum of the County Historical Society in Downtown Bland; Route 52/42 street light project to connect Exit 52 to Downtown Bland.

Proposed projects include: Creation of a community quilt to be put on display; brochures and a Bluefield souvenir will be available to everyone; the N&W (N&S) Railroad Museum is to be located in the Sanders House Museum; the Bluefield Room will be located in the Sanders House Museum to honor the Town; the Bailey Log House, one of the first homes in the area will be rehabilitated; Fall Barbeque Celebration at the Sanders House Museum and making apple butter; Railroad Museum tours; Tazewell County Library will sponsor an essay contest in the schools about the Jamestown Celebration.

Brunswick County - Lake Gaston
Proposed projects include: Development of a Fort Christina Site; Development of community application to include as many citizens in the community program as possible; Working with Virginia is for Lovers merchandising to create a commemorative coin or metal; Scenic River Status for Meherrin River; Obtained Virginia By-Way status for three roads in the county; Alberta town decals with the Jamestown logo and “Alberta celebrates Jamestown 2007”; Alberta School Park Trails: walking trail connecting downtown to the new 10 acre park; Community development of a six block area in Alberta: anticipated completion by February 2007; New Web site for the Town of Alberta: albertava.com; Restoration of the Alberta train station at the intersection of Seaboard & Norfolk Southern rail lines; Train from Alberta going on the Tobacco Heritage Trail Phase II.

Campbell County
Proposed projects include: Complete development of public park facilities in the 4 high school attendance zones and central park facility in Yellow Branch area of the County to ensure that all citizens have access to recreational activities; Establish Campbell County Historic Museum at Historic Courthouse in the village of Rustburg; Various Festivals throughout the year.
Caroline County Proposed projects include: support and expansion of Founders of America Website (foundersofamerica.org); Caroline County Historical Map; construction of a Caroline County Visitor Center.
Carroll County / Hillsville
Proposed projects include: a Hall of Fame of notable county citizens which will unveil in 2007 in the hallway of historic Courthouse; revitalization of two historic downtown structures (historic Courthouse and the Carter Mansion) for expanded community use; 100th anniversary (1907-2007) restoration of Civil War monument on historic courthouse grounds.

Culpeper County
Possible projects include: Annual festival in the spring called “Culpeper Remembrance Days” celebrating Culpeper history; Taste of Culpeper showcasing the best of Culpeper’s restaurants, wineries, and locally grown products; Development of additional brochures to be added to the collection of publications on various aspects of Culpeper’s history. Brochures to include: driving tour map of Colonial/Revolutionary sites; brochure dedicated to motorcycle tourism; and possibly a brochure on significant African American sites; Friends of Cedar Mountain: Re-enactment of the Battle of Cedar Mountain (tentative); Partnership with Culpeper schools on projects throughout the year including tours to “teach the teacher” about local history and student essays on lesser known facts of local history; Blue Ridge Chorale – performance of Randall Thompson's "Ode to the Virginian Voyage" and excerpts from "The Testament of Freedom".
Cumberland County
Proposed projects include: Patriot Day; Bateau Festival; Fourth of July in Cartersville; Christmas Parade; promotion and tours of Historical districts and sites and trails- Civil War, Lee's Retreat, Civil Rights in Education; Dickens' Epitaph promotion.
Danville / Pittsylvania County

Proposed projects include: Design/build 1/8 scale model and full-scale version of the boat John Smith used to explore Chesapeake Bay; Creation of a script of discovery of Stingray Point based on researched accounts of life abroad John Smith’s barge; Stingray re-enactment demonstration of rowing and sailing of John Smith’s barge; Deltaville’s Heritage Days with a parade float using the scale model of John Smith’s boat; Art Festival with display of John Smith’s boat and traditional costumes with re-enactments of the discovery; Community log canoe building session using traditional methods.
Diamond Hills Historical Society
Proposed projects include: Publish 2008 calendar with pictures and history of 12 of the Diamond Hill homes; Work with Lynchburg Historical Foundation on October 2007 Ghost Tour; Sponsor tour of 7-10 Diamond Hill historic homes in December 2007.

Possible projects include: Charter Day in May 2007 in honor of the 258th Anniversary of the signing of the Town’s Charter; Annual Fall Festival in October 2007; Possible Sister City Project with Dumfries, Scotland.

Fincastle
Proposed projects include: Inter-generational oral history project involving area students interviewing longtime Fincastle residents is one of the exciting activities underway. This project has received a Virginia Humanities Grant; Fincastle Home and Garden Tour featuring historic homes and patriotic gardens (late May/early June); Fincastle Heritage Days honor and showcase area heritage crafters and related historic events (July); Attic Productions will present an original musical specifically written to commemorate this historic milestone entitled “From Sea to Shining Sea” each weekend in August; Botetourt County Historical Museum and Fincastle Historic Museum will exhibit exciting historical artifacts during the entire year to further enhance Fincastle’s participation and commemoration.
